CICOPA welcomes the declaration of the Ministers of employment and labor of the G20 members about the importance of social and solidarity economics.
Within the framework of the G20 summit in Brazil, the Ministers of employment and labor of the G20 countries issued a declaration. The declaration highlights the conclusions made during a meeting organized in July, to assess the status of the current world labor situation. One of the main topics discussed was the role of social and solidarity economics as a tool to promote social inclusion and eliminate world poverty.
In the document, the ministers declare:
“We need to strengthen our efforts to foster social inclusion, eradicate multidimensional poverty and address working poverty with a focus on the promotion of quality jobs and decent work, recognizing that the social and solidarity economy could play an important role in generating quality employment, promoting fair working conditions and environmental sustainability with job creation in just transition processes.”
CICOPA welcomes the declaration, as social and solidarity economy has been recognized as a path to promote the creation of quality jobs and decent work. Social and worker cooperatives worldwide have been providing quality working conditions and championing their adoption by other actors.
This declaration follows a series of recent and continuous support of the social economy by international actors. For instance, the UN resolution on the role of social economy in the promotion of sustainable development was adopted in April 2023.
